A Little Petition to the Community
Android will become the old bull in the market of operating systems for mobile devices - no doubt and even if Apple at least for the moment seems to hurry ahead.
Hence it's very important to port an Open Office Viewer into the world of Android. Otherwise we get a Linux based operating system for mobil devices which only can cooperate with the Microsoft desktop system - a little bit silly situation, isn't it!
Can I view Open Office Files delivered as mail attachments or offered as download links in web pages?
The T-Mobile G2 touch offers an application named 'Quickoffice'. But this app can't open any of the Open Office files: neither calc-files, nor writer files, nor impress files. And I don't know any other Open Office File Viewer for Android. Moreover, this gap is already discussed in the Open Office Community.
Hence we have to state, that Open Office files (still) can't directly be used in an Android mobile phone (or any other Android based systems). Alternatively you can fall back to two workarounds:
- Quickoffice successfully handles Microsoft Office files inclusive of MS Office exports generated by the Open Office Suite.
- Open Office offers an excellent PDF export. And PDF files can be read by the PDF Viewer of the T-Mobile G2 touch.
